Hot pressure washers are the more beefy brothers of the ordinary pressure washer that you would find in the home. This would be a cold water variety and is perfectly adequate for home use, however for applications such as a food preparation area where a high level of hygiene is an absolute must the hot water variety is totally suited.
The hot water variety is more effective at cleaning especially when oil, fatty substances and difficult to budge ingrained dirt are involved, detergents are more effective in warm water too. Some models incorporate a steam facility wherein the pressure is lowered and water is allowed to boil so steam is produced, this can aid cleaning for particularly tough jobs.
Hot pressure washers, because they are more effective at cleaning, can use less water and also require the addition of a reduced amount of chemical additives as compared to the cold water variety. They incorporate a boiler to heat the water before it is expelled.
In general, power washers work by forcing water at high pressure through a lance or wand and out through an adjustable nozzle. You will find that there are many variations in design and capability to choose from.
First you need to decide whether you really require a hot pressure washer or whether the cold water variety would suffice, cold water pressure washers are usually less expensive but not suited for heavy industrial or agricultural cleaning, a hot water variety would be more efficient in these circumstances.
Having decided to look more closely at hot pressure washers your next thought should be to whether you need a portable or static variety.
This will be dictated by the type of application you have for the machine. It may be that you only want it located in one place for which a static machine would be wholly adequate.
Alternatively, if mobility is key then you need to decide whether an electric variety is suitable, obviously power availability at each location is a consideration here, or you might decide that for total flexibility a petrol or diesel model would be a better purchase.
The final consideration is whether you want to look at hot pressure washers that have separate tanks. This would probably be a consideration only if you have already opted for a petrol or diesel driven model.
Do not forget that instead of buying a machine you could always opt to rent one, at least temporarily, in that way you could try a model or two before committing to a final purchase.
